The Barbados population



comes in at a whopping 280,000 as of 2007.

A tiny population, but on a 21 mile-long island, Barbados is in the top 10 most densely populated countries in the world.

Picture it this way though:  Thinking of Barbados as one large city puts its population density in perspective: For example, Barbados is twice as large as Washington DC, but D.C has twice the number of people.

About 90% of the Barbados population are of African descent with the remainder of the population of European or asian descent.

The majority of the population of Barbados lives close to Bridgetown for an easy commute to work in banks, retail stores, and other industries.  

Others commute out of the city to work in hotels and villas or one of the tourist attractions.  Folks who live in the countryside also work in the sugar cane industry, cattle and produce farming.


Religions: Protestant 67% (Anglican 40%, Pentecostal 8%, Methodist 7%, other 12%), Roman Catholic 4%, none 17%, other 12%
